Growing up in a community plagued by poverty and inadequate healthcare, I dreamed of being a force for change. My passion for helping others led me to aspire to study pharmacy, believing that access to medicine could be a lifeline for my people. However, life had other plans.
After three consecutive years of unsuccessful attempts to gain admission into a pharmacy program in the university, frustration and self-doubt crept in. The pressure from my family, friends, and society to abandon my dream became overwhelming. But I was not ready to give up. I tried one more time, and though I still didn’t get into pharmacy, I was offered admission to study Agricultural Science. It felt like a defeat at first, but little did I know, it was a disguised blessing.
Determined to make the most of this new path, I spent my first year in university exploring the significance of Agriculture. I realized that Agriculture wasn’t just about farming—it was about nourishing people, creating jobs, and solving hunger crises. It dawned on me that I could make an even greater impact in my community than I had initially imagined as a pharmacist.
In my second year, driven by resilience and a deep sense of purpose, I founded Neso Farms. This enterprise was built on the principles of determination, dedication, and kindness—sowing seeds of opportunity and growth. I saw agriculture as more than just an academic discipline; it was a tool to empower young people, support women in agribusiness, and ensure that my community had access to nutritious food.
Today, as a penultimate-year agricultural student, I look back and see how my journey has been one of transformation. Through Neso Farms, I and my team and I have been able to create job opportunities, produce high-quality food, and inspire others to see the vast potential in the agricultural sector. This is only the beginning.
One of our most significant impacts has been job creation. By working with local farmers, youth, and women in rural areas, Neso Farms has provided employment opportunities for over 50 individuals directly and indirectly. Many of these individuals previously struggled with unemployment and lacked direction, but through training and mentorship, they have found purpose in agriculture.
Education and advocacy are at the heart of our mission. Neso Farms has partnered with schools and universities to promote agricultural education and awareness. We have hosted workshops, seminars, and hands-on training sessions to inspire students to see agriculture as a viable and rewarding career path. By bridging the gap between academia and practical farming, we are shaping the next generation of agripreneurs who will drive Africa’s agricultural transformation.
Agriculture is the foundation of life. As long as humanity exists, the need for food will never diminish. And so, I continue on this path, knowing that kindness isn’t just about providing medicine—it’s also about ensuring people have the sustenance to live healthy, fulfilling lives.
Sometimes, the dreams we let go of lead us to even greater callings. My journey to Neso Farms is a testament to the power of resilience, purpose, and kindness in shaping a better world.
For 2025, we hope to launch a project to empower women in agriculture as a driving force behind our work by addressing the challenges women face in accessing agricultural resources, called Women in Agribusiness program. Through this initiative, we hope to train and support over 50 women, providing them with seeds, equipment, and market access to ensure their farming businesses thrive.
